Van der Veer-Harris House
The house is associated with the late 18th century Van der Veer family and several generations of medical practitioners. Today, the structure is most significant for its Colonial Revival appearance, a design by noted architect Chester Patterson. Dr. Robert Harris, who owned the property in the early 20th century, commissioned its present configuration.
The Higginsville Road Bridges represent an important part of nineteenth-century transportation, engineering, and technology in America. They are two of only eight Pratt half-hip through bridges surviving in the state and remain relatively unaltered. The north span was cast in 1890 by Milliken Bros. and was the most complete and rare fabrication by this casting company. The south span, cast in 1893, is one of the few examples of the work of the Wrought Iron Bridge Co. The bridges span the Raritan River in the west of the township, taking the traveler from Somerset County into Hunterdon County.
