Sightseeing in Springfield, New Jersey Cannon Ball House is the present day headquarters of the Springfield Historical Society. The Hutching House is called the Cannonball House because it was hit by cannon fire during the Battle of Springfield. It was one of only four houses in Springfield not burned by the retreating British. The house is open to the public by appointment only. The west side of the house was struck with this cannonball (mounted above the window) during the Battle of Springfield.
